Kādēļ seriāls, nevis filma

Vasarā tapa pilnmetrāžas scenārijs. Kad to salīdzināja ar romānu, izrādījās, ka filmas garums izmet ap trīsdesmit nozīmīgu ainu un divpadsmit vietās runā pretī grāmatai. Tāpēc — sešas sērijas, nodaļu pēc nodaļas, ar grāmatu kā vienīgo autoritāti. Nekas netiek «uzlabots»; tiek pārnests — ar dokumentētām izmaiņām tur, kur ekrāns to prasa.

A feature screenplay was written over the summer. Checked against the novel, the feature's length dropped some thirty meaningful passages and contradicted the book in twelve places. So: six episodes, chapter by chapter, with the novel as the only authority. Nothing is "improved"; it is carried across, with documented staging changes where the screen demands them.

Sešas sērijas

Every episode opens cold, then a title card on a single kokle note — D — over one of Purkalītis's 1978 drawings, and closes on the original illustration for that chapter range. Nothing in the loglines above goes past what the book's own chapter titles tell you.

Kā tas top

1. Grāmata → scenārijs. Katras nodaļas ainas, dialogs un «slēgtās rindas» — teikumi, kas skanēs vārds vārdā tā, kā autors tos uzrakstīja. Book to screenplay: scenes, dialogue and the "locked lines" that will be spoken exactly as the author wrote them.
2. Kadru kartes. Katram kadram sava karte: kas redzams, kas skan, kuŗi personāži, kuŗa grāmatas rinda, cik sekundes. Sešām sērijām — 741 karte. Shot cards: one per shot — what is seen, what is heard, who is in it, which line of the book, how many seconds. 741 for the six episodes.
3. Balsis. Katram personāžam sava pastāvīga balss; dialogs ierakstīts angliski, jo video ģeneratori latviski vēl nerunā tīri. Latviešu valoda dzīvo dziesmās — un latviskais dublējums nāks, kad bilde būs gatava. Voices: one consistent voice per character; dialogue recorded in English because the video generators do not yet speak clean Latvian. Latvian lives in the songs — and a Latvian dub follows once the picture is locked.
4. Sākuma kadri. Nekustīgs attēls katram kadram, tajā pašā izskatā, kāds ir treilerim: 1970. gadu retrofutūrisms, zelta stunda, baltu tautu materiālā kultūra. Start frames: a still for every shot, in the trailer's look — 1970s retro-futurism, golden hour, Baltic folk material culture.
5. Kustība. MI video ģenerators pārvērš kadru piecpadsmit sekundēs kustības, balss ieraksts pievienots kā ritma pamats. Renderēšanu dara cilvēks, ar roku, pa vienam kadram. Motion: an AI video generator turns the still into fifteen seconds of movement with the voice recording attached as the timing spine. Rendering is done by a human, by hand, one shot at a time.
6. Montāža. Premiere: kas paliek, kas pārtaisāms, kur skan kokle, kur dziesma. Cilvēka acs izlemj. The edit: what stays, what gets remade, where the kokle sounds, where the song. A human eye decides.
7. Mūzika. Dziesmas latviski, ar grāmatas pašas pantiem; instrumentālie motīvi — kokle, koka flauta, stīgas, koka sitamie. Nekad sintētiski moderns. Music: songs in Latvian on the book's own verses; instrumental cues on kokle, wooden flute, strings, wooden percussion. Never synth-modern.

Kārtība un laiks

Slack is deliberate: no week that needs the maker at the machine by day, migraine weeks survivable, one episode of buffer before anything is published.

Kas nav izlemts

• Latviešu valoda skaņu celiņā. Dublējums pēc bildes ir izlemts un izmēģināts; atklāts paliek, vai kādreiz būs tieša latviešu ģenerācija, kad rīki to iemācīsies. • Autora lasījums. Vidvuds Beldavs lasa scenāriju un atbild uz dažiem jautājumiem par to, ko grāmata atstāj atklātu. Viņa veto stāv pāri visam. The author's read: Vidvuds Beldavs is reading the screenplay and answering a few questions the book leaves open. His veto stands above everything.
• Audiogrāmata. Autors lasa romānu latviski — plānots pēc drukas. Vienīgais, ko nevar izdarīt vēlāk. An audiobook: the author reading the novel in Latvian, planned after the print run. The one thing that cannot be made later.
